THE BUREAU of Internal Revenue (BIR) Region 11 sought the cooperation of taxpayers in meeting their P6.2-billion goal this year.

Romulo L. Aguila Jr., BIR Region 11 director, made the call during the launching yesterday at SM City Iloilo of this year’s tax campaign themed “I love Philippines, I Pay Taxes.”

Aguila said this year’s tax collection goal is 18.89 percent higher than their actual collections in 2010.

“We are confident that we can reach our goal this year but we still need the cooperation of our taxpayers and we are encouraging them to do their share,” Aguila said.

Aguila directed his appealed to local government units, businesses, entrepreneurs, professionals and all tax payers in the region during the tax campaign launch at SM City Iloilo Wednesday.

The BIR official said his area has five revenue district offices (RDO), including RDO No. 74 which covers Iloilo City and contributes 65% of the region’s total tax take.

Aguila said taxes paid to the government will benefit the taxpayers themselves.

“Our business and professionals will be assured of their business opportunities. Once all the infrastructure services are in place, there will be more business activities which make better life and security for the people,” he said.

To those who shirk from their responsibilities, Aguila said they will pursue tax evaders through their various programs like Oplan Kandado.

“As for Oplan Kandado, we have shut down 21 business establishments last year for various violations. This year, two establishments have already been recommended for closure due to under declaration of income by 30 percent or more,” Aguila said.

BIR Region 11 covers Aklan, Capiz, Antique, Iloilo City and Iloilo Province.
