A COUPLE consulted me on what to do with a lawyer they hired to transfer the title of a property they bought. The lawyer just disappeared with their title and other documents, after getting his fees. When, early during his term, then congressman Albertito Lopez (2nd district of Iloilo, which then included Guimaras and Iloilo City), brought the district’s town mayors to Manila and Hong Kong, a few things were revealed. For some of them, it was their first time to: 1) ride a plane 2) enter an elevator 3) sleep in a hotel room 4) use a hot and cold shower and 5) choose food from a menu of exotic cuisine (Nalipat ko, busog gali ako, said one after his order was served).
