Riverbank businesses told: ‘INSTALL WASTE WATER TREATMENT FACILITIES’

BUSINESS establishments along the 15-kilometer Iloilo River are encouraged to put up their own waste water treatment facilities as a “major requirement” in securing a business permit at the city mayor’s office.

This was announced by Engr. Noel Hechanova, city environment and natural resources officer, saying that a low-cost waste water treatment technology is now available to all business establishments and residents along the river.

These establishments and families each discharge at least 30 cubic meters of waste water directly to the river and more than 2,000 kilos of garbage everyday thereby adding up to the sedimentation and siltation of the river.

Tacas tanods face murder charges over death of cop

THE FAMILY of a police officer who was killed in a shootout in Jaro, Iloilo City last week filed murder charges against barangay tanods (watchmen) who were allegedly involved in the incident.

S/Supt. Marietto Valerio, Iloilo City police director, confirmed that Berna Jaculina, wife of the late PO3 Jerome Jaculina, filed the charges before the Iloilo City Prosecutor’s Office the other day.

Named as respondents in the charge sheets were the six tanods of Brgy. Tacas, Jaro who tested positive in the paraffin tests conducted by the PNP

Iloilo media told to lobby for decriminalizing of libel

A HIGH-PROFILE lawyer is urging the Iloilo media to unite and lobby for the decriminalization of libel.

Harry Roque, the Philippine representative of Southeast Asia Media Legal Defense Initiative, said that it is imperative to fight for the freedom of expression enshrined in the Philippine Constitution and to amend the Revised Penal Code, which categorizes libel as a criminal offense.

“It should be your natural advocacy,” said Roque, who also serves as chairman of the Center for International Law-Philippines.

IT’S RAYMUND’S TURN!!

ENVISIONED to be the most classy boutique club-lounge in Cosmo Iloilo, the newest G LOUNGE had a dry-run… rather a soft opening recently, dahlings!

It turned out to be a special nite as G LOUNGE was unveiled on the special day of the owner himself, Cosmo Iloilo’s grand master of nightlife Raymund Kaw Sing who added another year to his dazzling life.

With the celebrator’s gorgeous wifey Sarah, Raymund did a fab job as host, what with the eye-catching interiors of G Lounge greeting his pals and colleagues who all started breezing in at 9 pm.

Then, dahlings, it was party time with endless cocktails and cool bubblies and, of course, the non-stop scrumptious bar chows as the debonair DJ Ryan Espinosa hit the booth and conjured smashing hits!

Of course, the birthday boy’s best buddies were all present and accounted for: hunk of the nite Sherwin Sy who had a great time alternating with their business partner Ryan Casipe in entertaining everyone.

Seen at the scene was the stunning celebrator’s sis-in-law, celebrity model Sandra Larsson who came with her father Aake Larsson.

Well, dahlings, it was another year of success for Raymund who is fast becoming an institution in Cosmo Iloilo’s nightlife.
