Riverbank businesses told: ‘INSTALL WASTE WATER TREATMENT FACILITIES’

BUSINESS establishments along the 15-kilometer Iloilo River are encouraged to put up their own waste water treatment facilities as a “major requirement” in securing a business permit at the city mayor’s office.

This was announced by Engr. Noel Hechanova, city environment and natural resources officer, saying that a low-cost waste water treatment technology is now available to all business establishments and residents along the river.

These establishments and families each discharge at least 30 cubic meters of waste water directly to the river and more than 2,000 kilos of garbage everyday thereby adding up to the sedimentation and siltation of the river.

Tacas tanods face murder charges over death of cop

THE FAMILY of a police officer who was killed in a shootout in Jaro, Iloilo City last week filed murder charges against barangay tanods (watchmen) who were allegedly involved in the incident.

S/Supt. Marietto Valerio, Iloilo City police director, confirmed that Berna Jaculina, wife of the late PO3 Jerome Jaculina, filed the charges before the Iloilo City Prosecutor’s Office the other day.

Named as respondents in the charge sheets were the six tanods of Brgy. Tacas, Jaro who tested positive in the paraffin tests conducted by the PNP

Iloilo media told to lobby for decriminalizing of libel

A HIGH-PROFILE lawyer is urging the Iloilo media to unite and lobby for the decriminalization of libel.

Harry Roque, the Philippine representative of Southeast Asia Media Legal Defense Initiative, said that it is imperative to fight for the freedom of expression enshrined in the Philippine Constitution and to amend the Revised Penal Code, which categorizes libel as a criminal offense.

“It should be your natural advocacy,” said Roque, who also serves as chairman of the Center for International Law-Philippines.

SOUND TRIP!!!

IT was a nite of enjoying fresh air at the elegant dining havens of Cosmo Iloilo’s picturesque La Plazuela de Iloilo.

We started our nite with a sumptuous dinner at Southern Italian ‘Steps of Rome’ resto where the talented chef Pauline Banusing put on a dazzling buffet for dinners, showing off a broad range of culinary delights, dahlings! And then off we chilled at the elegant and cozy Henry’s Wines and liquors. There we sipped my fave “Gossip’ white wines while overlooking the romantic view of cascading mini waterfalls, light and colors on the garden nearby. Well, dahlings, to relax your nerves after a soooo hectic time, I’d say that this is the best place to unwind, what with its delightful wine bar nestled for complete relaxation away from the maddening crowds, dahlings!

Highlight of the nite was this amazing spectacle of Octoberfest Auto Sound Party held at La Plazuela de Iloilo’s sprawling back parking area where the popular Ritmo Tambores beats the nite with their zamba tunes.

Well, well, it was an amazing spectacle later as Metro Bacolod and Cosmo Iloilo’s champions on Auto sounds put on their high-end car collections enhanced with heart stopping sound and lighting effect gadgets grooving with eclectic music galore for diners and partyphiles alike while chilling out with their fave cold San Mig bubblies, dahlings!

For a change, it was a one-of-a-kind party set-up worth enjoying the nite away. After all, dahlings, it was again organized by the irrepressible triumvirate, Cosmo Iloilo’s A-list eventologists Butchay Magalona, Vina Janagap and Rechel Balleza of BVG Productions with La Plazuela de Iloilo’s PR man Toots Jimenez, no less! Congrats guys!
