Riverbank businesses told: ‘INSTALL WASTE WATER TREATMENT FACILITIES’ By: Lydia C. Pendon BUSINESS establishments along the 15-kilometer Iloilo River are encouraged to put up their own waste water treatment facilities as a “major requirement” in securing a business permit at the city mayor’s office. This was announced by Engr. Noel Hechanova, city environment and natural resources officer, saying that a low-cost waste water treatment technology is now available to all business establishments and residents along the river. These establishments and families each discharge at least 30 cubic meters of waste water directly to the river and more than 2,000 kilos of garbage everyday thereby adding up to the sedimentation and siltation of the river.
