THE DEPARTMENT of Trade and Industry (DTI) is providing assistance for the realization of the P2-billion development project in Sicogon, Island in Carles town.

DTI Iloilo manager Wilhelm Malones said DTI is helping Sicogon Development Corporation to comply with the requirements so it could avail of incentives being given by the Iloilo Investment Promotion Board.

“Since the development project is tourism oriented we also help the developer meet the standards of facilities for accreditation of the Department of Tourism,” Malones said.

Sicogon Development Corporation intends to put up high end resort in the island.

"And once this project pushes through, it could generate employment and become a new attraction for Panay next to Boracay island," she said. (PNA)

Caluya pleas for help

March 04, 2015 01:00 AM

By: Manuel “Boy” Mejorada

THE island municipality of Caluya in the province of Antique seldom appears on the radar screen of most people. That’s because it is so remote – a four-hour boat ride from mainland Antique – and except for its rich coal deposits and abundant seaweeds (and the aborted plan several years ago to turn the coal pits into garbage receptacles for solid waste from the national capital), Read more...

By: Fr. Roy Cimagala

THIS, I believe, is a clear mark of a good, humble, if not a holy person. When one acknowledges his own faults and weaknesses, and more so, of his own mistakes and sins, he is truly getting real and is not deluding himself into living a self-contained, make-believe world. Read more...

IT’S the trust and confidence that matter most.

Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog made the right decision to appoint Ariel Castañeda as the new chief of the Local Economic Enterprise Office (LEEO). Read more...

Mamasapano 'striptease' and catharsis

March 04, 2015 12:52 AM

By: Jess Dureza

THIS kind of "striptease" does not tantalize nor excite. It angers. The way the Mamasapano incident’s actual facts had been exposed slowly piece-by-piece is not scintillating at all. If only all those involved immediately bared all and gave full disclosure at the outset, the nation would have been spared this agonizing and divisive disrobing. Read more...
