On the weekend before the start of classes, the Department of Education reminded schools in Metro Manila against selling junk food and soft drinks inside their canteens.
The DepEd Metro Manila unit said schools should at least offer nutritious food inside the school premises, radio dzBB reported early Friday.
It said schools should take all measures to make sure the health of pupils will not be compromised.
Also, the DepEd will ask help from school administrators and local government units to monitor vendors selling food outside the school premises.
The monitoring will seek to make sure the vendors also sell nutritious and clean food.
On Monday, students in the elementary and high school levels are to troop to schools to kick off School Year 2013-2014.
The DepEd had been leading other government agencies in making preparations to make sure the school year starts smoothly. — LBG, GMA News
